Freshman filly pacers to compete in NYSS at Monticello Raceway

Monticello, NY — The entry box was overflowing at Monticello Raceway when Race Secretary Eric Warner drew for the 2-year-old pacing fillies for the New York Sire Stakes on Monday (July 3). When the dust settled, he had four heats of Sire Stakes and four divisions of the Excelsior Series.

In the $26,250 first NYSS division, So Well Dressed (Jordan Stratton) will be seeking her second Sire Stakes win after winning the inaugural this season at Buffalo Raceway, taking her division in 1:57.2. She will start from the outside at post six for trainer Chuck Conner Jr. Hunting Hula (post four) finished second in her recent performance in this company. She will be driven by Patrick Lachance. Tempville (Tyler Buter) has two winning qualifiers under her belt for trainer George Ducharme and will score from post two.

The $26,750 second heat has two starters with unblemished records. Villannah (post two) has a pair of winning qualifying races at Vernon Downs. The $87,000 yearling, a daughter of Hunstville, hails from the Ducharme barn and will be driven by Buter. Bronx Barista (post four) also sports a perfect chart with a trio of winning performances (two qualifiers and one race) with a record of 1:56.1 and will be driven by Mark MacDonald, regular driver for trainer Ray Schnittker. The favorite, Camerican, was a winner in her last start in NYSS company at Buffalo Raceway in 1:58.2. The Ron Burke-trained daughter of American Ideal will score from post seven and will be driven by Stratton.

Race eight is the $26,250 third heat of Sire Stakes with six starters. Blue Point (post five) has been installed the morning line favorite at 5-2. She was second in her last start in Buffalo in the same class for trainer Ed Hart. Jason Bartlett will drive. I’m A Believer (post two) will be driven by Stratton. She is 3-1 on the morning line.

The $26,250 final heat features Belle Brielle (post two), a heat winner of the Sire Stakes at Buffalo in 1:59.2 for trainer Bruce Clarke. She will be driven by Marcus Miller. Golden Krisp is the most seasoned filly of the bunch with four starts (including three qualifiers) under her belt. The John Berger-trained freshman will score from post position three with Stratton in the sulky.
