Freshman pacers in Lexington spotlight

Lexington, KY — Kenneth J equaled The Red Mile track record for 2-year-olds pacing colts in capturing his $92,500 division of the International Stallion Stake on Friday at the famed Lexington oval.

Ron Pierce piloted the son of Bettor’s Delight to his seventh win in nine lifetime starts. Cue The Paige and Artriverderci finished in a dead heat for second.

Metro Pace winner Yankee Skyscaper won the opening division in 1:52.1, a lifetime best, for driver Jody Jamieson. Spin Rate was second and Mr Apples was third.

Southwind Lynx prevailed in a driving three-horse finish to win his division of the International Stallion Stake in 1:51.4.

Andy Miller drove for trainer George Teague, Jr. The son of Real Artist moved to the lead after the first quarter and hung on under strong urging from Miller to win over Big Al’s Delight (Dave Palone) and Benzley Mindale (Brian Sears).

Island Delight, a gelded freshman son of Bettor’s Delight, wore down pacesetting Digital Z Tam in the final eighth to win the final division in 1:53.3.

Jody Jamieson drove the pacer to his third win in nine starts this season. Digital Z Tam held gamely for second while Poker Hat grabbed the show spot.
