Monticello, NY – Monticello Raceway will host its second leg of New York Sire Stakes on Monday (July 7). The 9-race card features two heats of Sire Stake vying for $53,500 each and two divisions of the $20,000 Excelsior Stakes.
Last week this group competed at Saratoga Raceway, both heat winners are in the first Sire Stake event.
The first heat of Sire Stakes action starts in the first race, a six-horse field AI (PP3-J. Bartlett) has been installed as the early morning line favorite, she was a winner last start in Saratoga in a NYSS event in 1:58.3, the son of Chapter Seven is trained by Ron Burke. Secured (PP 4) was also a heat week last start in 1:59.2. The daughter of Chapter Seven is trained and part owned by driver Ake Svanstedt.
The second division worth $52,500 is another six-horse field, Angry Pete (PP2 – J. Stark Jr.) who finished second to Secured last start after winning her first qualifier. Titans Mischief (PP5 – M. Kakaley) was beaten 1-¼ lengths last week by AI
In Excelsior action Dress Shoes (PP2 – J. Bartlett) won her heat of Excelsior Stakes last week at the Spa in 2:03.4, the daughter of The Veteran is trained by Ann Yurenka. From the rail is Goog Eyes (PP 1-S. Rybk) who has been a bridesmaid in her last three starts.
Race 8 is the final stakes event of the afternoon, Footsteps Falco (PP2- J. Bartlett) is the only starter to have a parimutuel start under belt, she was third in the company last start out for owner – trainer Jared Bako. DW’S Cha-Ching (PP4-P. Fluet) scored in her last start a qualifying race in 2:04.3.
