Future wagering on Little Brown Jug opens August 23

Delaware, OH — Wagering on the first of two Little Brown Jug future wagering pools will start at 12 noon on Thursday (August 23) and continue through 11 p.m. Sunday (August 26) at racetracks and internet sites throughout North America and Europe.

The second future pool will be from 12 p.m. on Sunday (September 16) through 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday (September 19), the first three afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware County Fair.

The minimum future wager is $1.00 and all future wagers are win betting only. The winner of each pool will be determined by the official first place finisher in the 2012 Little Brown Jug, to be raced Thursday afternoon (September 20).

Every 3-year-old pacer in North America is included in the Jug field because if a colt or gelding wins the Cane Pace he can be supplemented into the 67th Little Brown Jug. Eliminations for the Cane Pace, to be held at Tioga Downs, will be Sunday (August 26) and the Cane Final is September 3.

A team of harness racing analysts and handicappers have selected a group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt and gelding has been assigned odds based on the selection order. The horses in each of the pools are listed in alphabetical order.

“This is the seventh year our fans at the track will have the opportunity to place bets at the regular betting windows throughout the fairgrounds,” said Phil Terry, general manager and director of marketing.

Last year Jug champion Big Bad John paid $10.80 in the first pool and $7.80 in the second pool, compared to the $4.00 mutuel payout in the final on race day.

A Rocknroll Dance (7-2) is the morning line favorite for the first future Jug pool. Purchased as a yearling for $15,000, the son of Rocknroll Hanover has overcome a slow start in his 3-year-old season with major victories in the Meadowlands Pace and Battle of the Brandywine. Trained by Jim Mulinix, A Rocknroll Dance has now earned $1,764,750 in his career.

Adios champion Bolt The Duer (4-1) is the second choice over Confederation Cup and Upper Canadian Pacing Derby winner Michael’s Power (9-2).

Complete past performance lines for all eligibles will be available free of charge on the Little Brown Jug website: www.littlebrownjug.com.
