Gardner doubles up at Saratoga

Saratoga Springs, NY — Andy Gardner enjoyed a big Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 24) at Saratoga Casino Hotel, taking the $11,000 distaff pacing feature with All Speed Rising as half of a training double.

All Speed Rising surged to the front and held off 39-1 outsider Onspeed N to win Tuesday’s top distaff at Saratoga Casino Hotel. Melissa Simser-Iovino photo.

Gardner claimed the 6-year-old daughter of All Speed Hanover last month for owners George Tackley and Wendy Storrier, and she has since paid rapid dividends for her new connections. Billy Dobson sat off a contested pace with All Speed Rising before making his move heading to three-quarters and getting the better of pacesetter Bontz N and Wally Hennessey around the final turn. All Speed Rising, who paid $16.40 to win, forged to the front and held on in the stretch for a career best 1:54.1 win, her third of the season and second in six starts for Gardner. Long shot Onspeed N (Alek Chartrand) rallied from last to finish second at 39-1; Bontz N held third.

Gardner also won with Saylavie Blue Chip, who broke her maiden in 1:57.4 with leading driver Jimmy Devaux in the sulky. He also notched a pair of second-place finishes.

Live racing at Saratoga resumes on Saturday (Aug. 28) with first post set for 6:45 p.m.
