Felton, DE – Gary Del Cameron II, 62, of Felton, Del., who was a third-generation horse trainer from the prolific Cameron Family, died Dec. 30, 2025.
A native of Pinehurst, N.C., Mr. Cameron grew up under the tutelage of grandfather Adelbert (Del) Cameron and father Gary Cameron, learning from a young age about the care and training of racehorses.
Mr. Cameron graduated from Pinecrest High School in 1982 and came north to start his career in harness racing with his dad at Brandywine Raceway. He began his driving career that same year.
Mr. Cameron was known best for his knowledge and training of trotters and trained many of the “Windswept” horses for John Swart over the years. But his favorite horse of all time was one that he bought as a yearling named Luvyabutleave. She was a horse that put her all into every race. She last raced in 2019 at Rosecroft Raceway, and she banked $500,665 with a record of 1:54.2f.
Mr. Cameron is survived by his wife, Carrie; daughter Lauren Stoltzfus (Jon); grandchildren Colton and Payton; mother Nancy Rowe Cameron and siblings, Kristine Fredericks (George), Katherine Allen, Kimberly Fagan and Jon Cameron (Margaret) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Cameron.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Cameron will be cremated. There will be a private family gathering in his hometown of Pinehurst.
