After losing as the heavy favorite in the Italian Trotting Derby, Phillipe Allaire’s Ginostrabliggi rebounded to win the Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli at Milan’s San Siro track.
Ginostrabliggi, driven by Gabriele Gelormini, won both his elimination and the final without any problems.
In the elimination, the 3-year-old colt clocked 1:56.1f, while in the final he delivered 1:53.4f as a convincing winner ahead of Giotto Ek with Alexandre Abrivard and the race’s only filly, Glamour Queen with Antonio di Nardo.
With these two victories, Ginostrabliggi added a total of 116,380 Euros to his prize money, which now totals 765,130 Euros.
The other Orsi Mangelli elimination was quite dramatic, as Giotto Ek, who crossed the finish line first, was relegated to third place for passing stablemate Gabrioz on the inside in the stretch. This is a special Italian rule.
Giotto Ek was behind the leading Glamour Queen, who had Gabrioz outside. When Gabrioz moved out, it created racing room 100 yards from the finish for Giotto Ek, which Alexandre Abrivard took advantage of – but it was not allowed.
In the Orsi Mangelli Filly, with a first prize of 36,800 Euros, Alessandro Gocciadoro-trained Ginger Wise As (sired by Love You) with Antonio di Nardo in the sulky won in 1:56.3f.
Open Class trotters met in Gran Premio delle Nazioni (Group 1), with a total prize fund of 220,000 Euros and 92,000 Euros to the winner.
French Inexess Bleu with Alexandre Abrivard was the heavy favorite but had to settle for second place behind another French trotter, Jabalpur (sired by Booster Winner) with Gabriele Gelormini driving.
Jabalpur, who’s trained by Alain Chavatte, has improved quite a bit this year and has won another Group 1 race, the prestigious Prix Rene Balliee at Vincennes.
