Gloria Lewis, 93, dies

Columbus, OH — Gloria Diamond Lewis, 93, mother of well-known trotting trainer Gary Lewis, died April 7, 2011, in Florida. She had been in declining health.

Mrs. Lewis was a familiar figure at Pompano Park for many years and owned horses for more than a half-century.

A native of Brooklyn, she studied at New York University and lived in Utica, New York, for many years, then moved to Florida in the early 1970s. She was an avid harness handicapper and also enjoyed playing poker.

She is survived by her sons, Gary and Les; and a sister, Ruth Diamond Abramson.
