Toronto, ON — With just a single elimination necessary for the Tie Silk Stakes, Ibrox and driver Jody Jamieson went gate-to-wire to score the victory in 1:57 on Thursday night (April 7) at Woodbine.
The son of Yankee Glide wasted little time off the gate from post five as he controlled the tempo past the first quarter in :28.1, ahead of Going For It (James MacDonald) and Only The Best It (Simon Allard).
As the 3-year-old colt trotters marched towards the half, Only The Best It, who was sitting third, make a costly break in stride and was out of contention. Con Brio Hall (Jack Moiseyev) began the first-over attack with post time favorite R As Shakenbake (Rick Zeron) tracking him as Ibrox passed the half in :58.3.
Ibrox and Con Brio Hall were strides apart past three-quarters in 1:28 with R As Shakenbake getting the golden second-over trip.
Down the stretch, Jamieson asked Ibrox for more trot and the Igor Vrablic trainee responded and accelerated away from his rivals to score a comfortable, six length victory. Con Brio Hall was a well-beaten second over Going For It.
Ibrox enjoyed his first career victory in four attempts and now has earnings of $11,984 for owner Ibrox Racing. He paid $9.30.
The C$60,000 final will line up as follows: 1. R As Shakenbake, 2. Handsome Yankee, 3. Going For It, 4. Ibrox, 5. Sholty, 6. Con Brio Hall, 7. Field Of Dreams, 8. Only The Best It, 9. Onirique and 10. Hearthetrainacomin.
