Nichols, NY – Golden Kronos (Jimmy Whittemore) captured the $7,500 featured trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 19).

Bourbon Express (John MacDonald) jumped to the lead and led to the quarter in :28.2 as Golden Kronos ($13.20) tucked into the pocket. Bourbon Express slowed things way down with a :31.1 second quarter and was first to the half in :59.3. He still controlled things leading to three-quarters in 1:28.2.

As they reached the stretch, Golden Kronos climbed out of the pocket and took over the lead. Second-place finisher Lepanto (Leon Bailey) gave it a late try but it was too late as Golden Kronos won by a lenght in 1:57.4. Bourbon Express had to settle for third.

Golden Kronos is a 10-year-old gelding by Chapter Seven. He is trained by Stanley Zombick Jr for owners William and Michael Pozefsky. It was his first win in 2024. He now has 40 career victories.

Leading driver Leon Bailey had a driving grand slam. He got his wins with Courtly Prince ($5), Lady To Watch ($5.90), Cash N Chrome ($8.30), and On The Take ($13.80). Ivan Davies had a training-driving double.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (July 20) at 6.05 p.m.
