GSY Recap from Friday Night at the Meadowlands..

East Rutherford, NJ – Two GSY events were carded on Friday (March 3) night with the temperatures in the low 40s at post time and the track listed as fast.

In the first race on the card, several horses tussled for the top spot going into the first turn and after a :27.4 first quarter, longshot Sd Watch Me Now (Juan Cano) forged ahead and never looked back from there. He took over the lead from Elrama N (Terry Di Cicco), who grudgingly gave way while Pictonian Thunder (Charles Longo) was parked on the outside for the entire mile.

Cano never had any real challengers from there and cruised under the line a five-length winner at odds of 15-1. This continued the streak of a non-favorite winning in one of these GSY events for the third straight week. The mile went in 1:53.3.

Favorite Bilbo Hanover (Neil Glasser) got up for second and Howtotrainurdragon (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan) came from way back to finish third. The 5-year-old gelding is owned by Forward Step LLC out of NJ and is trained by Cano as well.

In the fifth race on the card, there was another sprint for the lead and after a hot :26.2 first quarter, the favorite Texas Terror N (John Calabrese) found his way to the top and didn’t look back from there. He was shortening strides late but was still able to come home under the wire first by a length victory.

Longshot Thndrfrmthethron N (Neil Glasser) got up for second while Smileandsaycheese (Anthony Verruso) came from way out of it to get up for the show dough. The mile went in 1:53.2.

This ended a streak of favorites not winning a GSY event as the public sent this warhorse and previous week’s winner out as the favorite. The 15-year old gelding is owned by Ettore Annunziata Rev Tr out of NY and is trained by Michael Annunziata.

The GSY is scheduled to be back in action next Friday (March 10) at the Meadowlands. Post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
