Hall of Fame pays tribute to Stan Bergstein

by Gail Cunard, director, the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame

Goshen, NY — Stanley Bergstein was inducted into the Harness Racing Communicators’ Hall of Fame in 1987 and inducted into the Harness Racing Living Hall of Fame the following year. These are the two highest honors that can be bestowed by one’s peers and he is the only person who is a member of both halls of fame. He was elected a member of the Board of Trustees of The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in 1980. He remained on the active Board until his requested retirement in July, 2011. At that time he was unanimously elected a trustee emeritus.

“It is with deep sadness that we, the Museum’s trustees, members and staff, recognize the death of Stan Bergstein. His passing is a tremendous loss to harness racing. His immense knowledge of the sport, his trust in it and his intrinsic enthusiasm for it, his multitalented abilities in all its facets, from writing to race calling and his unqualified support, by word and deed, for The Harness Racing Museum will be sorely missed. He was without equal. The Harness Racing Museum has lost a great friend and our sport has lost a Giant.” Elbridge T. Gerry, Jr., President.
