Hard-used Lady Newton scores fourth in a row in Meadows co-feature

Washington, PA — Hard used twice in the mile and shoved five-wide through the lane, Lady Newton still had enough to score her fourth straight victory in Tuesday’s (Nov. 2) co-feature at The Meadows, a $10,300 fillies and mares conditioned pace.

Lady Newton soared down the grandstand side and found the winning post in time to capture Tuesday’s top distaff pace at The Meadows. Chris Gooden photo.

Lady Newton was parked for most of the opening panel before finding a seat in sixth, then was on the move again third-over up the backside. When Aaron Merriman sent her widest of all in the stretch, the 3-year-old daughter of Sweet Lou and I’m Sassy found more and edged All Day Sunshine by a head in 1:53.2. Ellasen finished third.

In Tuesday’s companion feature, a $10,300 distaff trot, Tipsy In Dixie roared to the point from post four and never had an anxious moment, prevailing in a career best 1:55.1 for Anthony MacDonald, trainer Tim Twaddle and owner Thestable Tipsy In Dixie. Petro Hall and Muskingum rounded out the ticket.

Dave Palone piloted four winners and Merriman three on the 12-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Wednesday (Nov. 3), when the 12-race program features a $702.13 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
