Harness racing returns to Langlade County Fair

Antigo, WI — The clay will be flying and track records falling as harness racing returns to the Langlade County Fair in Antigo, Wis., on Sunday (July 28) after a 33-year absence.

Ronald Reagan was president and a postage stamp was a mere 22 cents the last time the Standardbreds scorched the half-mile oval in 1986.

Eight races are scheduled for a 1 p.m. post time at the fairgrounds that first held races in the late 1800s. The feature race of the day is a non-winners of $5,000 pace.

Among the local celebrities in attendance include Wisconsin Harness Racing Hall of Fame inductee, announcer George Woodbridge; fourth generation driver Mike Magee and his 2018 pacer of the year, Pathologist; third generation driver Larry Feilbach, driving I’m Confident, a $300,000 winner trained by third generation horseman, 13-year-old Paul Sawyer; 2016 Fan Favorite Horse of the Year, I Want Revenge; eight-time Wisconsin Driver of the Year, Gabe Wand; and the nearly $500,000 winner Stormin Rustler, who will be making his 400th lifetime start.

All horsemen will be in attendance to meet and greet the race fans as they reintroduce harness racing to a new generation of fair goers.
