Columbus, OH — Harper Finn, 5, of Altamont, Ill., the daughter of harness racing participants Richard and Bethany Finn, died Wednesday (Aug. 2) at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

As reported by the Associated Press, Finn was injured at Sunday’s (July 30) races at the Effingham (Ill.) County Fair when struck by the outer arm of the starting gate, which failed to close properly at the start of the race, and died of complications from those injuries.

Arrangements are pending at Gieseking Funeral Home, in Altamont.
