Wellston, OH — Alex Hawk piloted four winners on the seven-race program Friday night (July 11) at the Jackson County Fair in Wellston, Ohio. Hawk successfully piloted Dublins Louise (2FT) in 2:18.1 in the first race, Power Hill (3CT) in 2:02.2 in the third race, Remy Instead (2FT) in 2:13.3 in the fifth race, and Arbin (Signature Series) in 1:56.1 in the evening’s sixth race.
The 1:56.1 clocking by Arbin was a new track record and shattered the previous 1:58 clocking set in 2007 by Nite Train (Justin Hall). Arbin fired off the gate and led throughout the mile setting fractions of :29, :59, 1:28.1 and 1:56.1 romping his competition by 21-3/4-lengths. Arbin is a five-year-old son of McArdle owned by Richard Owings and is trained year-round at the Jackson County Fairgrounds by Earl Owings. Friday’s score was the 24 career win for Arbin and winning the lion’s share of the $2,375 purse increased his career bankroll over $302,000.
Friday’s program began with a touching tribute to Hunter Myers who died earlier this year as a result of a tragic racing accident at the Meadows. Myers won his first race at the Jackson County Fair in 2014 at the tender age of 16. Myers’ father, mother, and sister, as well as numerous members of the harness racing community were all in attendance to participate in the Myers Memorial.
Racing action resumes Saturday (July 12) at 6:00 p.m. with an exciting 11-race program. Saturday is fan appreciation night with prize drawings throughout the evening.
