Columbus, OH — Heather MacMaster, 37, of Westmoreland, N.Y., died Aug. 5, 2024, at SUNY Upstate University Medical Hospital, in Syracuse, N.Y., of a rare sarcoma cancer.
Ms. MacMaster was born in New Hartford, N.Y., on Dec. 14, 1986, the daughter of Jacqueline Sheheen and Daniel MacMaster. She was raised in Utica, N.Y., was a graduate of Proctor High School, and earned her associate degree from SUNY Morrisville. At one time, Ms. MacMaster was employed as a bus driver with Birnie Bus Services, Inc. and most recently with Centro Bus Company in Utica. She had a great fondness for horses and horse racing. She owned three Standardbreds, including Bunk p,4,1:53.3 ($128,439), whom she retired from racing in 2012.
In addition to her parents, Ms. MacMaster is survived by her daughter, Olivia Dole; grandmother, Phyllis Fenton; brother, Daniel O’Neill; aunts and uncle, Donna Laribee, Loretta and Mike Sullivan, and Cynthia Tehan; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Raymond Sheheen, and Clarence and Helen MacMaster.
Visitation for family and friends is Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, NY, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m., at the conclusion of visitation. She will be laid to rest on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at a cemetery to be announced.
