HHYF programs expanding

from the Harness Horse Youth Foundation

Westfield, IN — In an effort to more fully complete its mission of providing educational opportunities to young people and their families, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation is pleased to announce its next step in the process.

HHYF is creating multiday workshops to be held throughout the year focusing on various topics and important events in the world of harness racing. The first event will be held in conjunction with the Tattersalls Select Mixed Sale on the weekend of January 17-18, 2010, at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

“Our summer camp program works extremely well to provide a basic understanding of the industry,” said HHYF President Callie Davies-Gooch. “However, the organization recognizes the need to build on both the enthusiasm and education created during that experience so we are working diligently to develop additional opportunities. We are excited that our first effort will be held in a sale atmosphere where the students can learn to evaluate all kinds of horses and be exposed to more of the economics.”

The workshop is open to any young person ages 12 and older including all former Harness Racing Youth League graduates. Parents are welcome to attend all or part of the event. There is no registration fee though a nominal charge will be assessed for meals.

Activities will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at the host hotel and will conclude the following afternoon at the sale. Advance registration is required; those wishing to sign up should call the HHYF office prior to January 5, 2010. A block of rooms (held until January 5) has been reserved at Fairfield Inn Meadowlands, 850 Paterson Plank Road, East Rutherford, NJ 07073; phone 1-800-MARRIOTT. Individuals are responsible for making their own hotel accommodations and should refer to “Harness Horse Youth Foundation” group to receive the discounted rate.

Additional dates will be released as plans are finalized. Further questions and registration for the sale workshop should be directed to the HHYF office at 317.867.5877 or by visiting www.hhyf.org.
