Last call for ’09 pension benefits in Pennsylvania

Lemoyne, PA — Dozens of drivers and trainers who competed at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack will lose out on thousands in pension dollars if they don’t act before December 31.

In order to be eligible for each year’s pension distribution — which can average as much as $10,000 per participant depending on credits earned and eligibility — drivers and trainers must be registered as members with the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association. Doing so takes only a few minutes. Applications are available for download at www.pahha.com (click on “Join”) or by visiting the PHHA’s offices in person at either track.

It is important to note that, after December 31, any unclaimed pension dollars are returned to the plan and cannot be distributed under any circumstances. Please don’t wait until the last minute as the PHHA needs to receive your application and process it before the end of 2009.

And, with next year right around the corner, now is a good time to write a reminder to complete an application as early as possible and take advantage of other PHHA benefits including insurance all year long.

“Anyone who plans on competing in Pennsylvania at our member tracks should renew their membership and update their contact information at the beginning of every season,” said Mike Izzo, the PHHA’s chief financial officer.
