Horsemen’s Unicorn Foundation, Stable of Memories fundraiser on Oct. 3 at Round Barn

from the Horsemen’s Unicorn Foundation and the Stable of Memories

Lexington, KY — Once a year horsemen come together from all over the world to attend Grand Circuit racing and purchase high quality yearlings in beautiful Lexington. This year the Horsemen’s Unicorn Foundation and the Stable of Memories have joined together to address an ever increasing need to support the preservation of the historic Round Barn and at the same time raise funds for horsemen in need.

Both groups will host an evening of dinner, dancing and camaraderie on Monday (Oct. 3) at the Round Barn. Bayou Bluegrass will cater an eclectic menu. The price per ticket is $75. You may contact Mike Freibert at 859.361.0962, Ute Nolan at 561.389.4543, or Kit McKinley at Fennel’s tack shop.

For the past 12 years the Horsemen’s Unicorn Foundation has been able to support horsemen who, due to no fault of their own, have encountered hard times because of illness, accidents, fires and sudden deaths. We covered it all as best as we could with the limited funds available. In quiet years we even supported the Standardbred Retirement Foundation to help with their expenses.

The sole mission of the Stable of Memories, which owns the Round Barn, is to preserve and protect the historic building which has stood as the gateway to The Red Mile since 1880. The Stable of Memories relies completely on donations to maintain the structure and all funds donated are used to preserve the building which once was a barn that stabled such greats as 1930 Hambletonian and Kentucky Futurity winner Hanover’s Bertha. In the past decade costly repairs have been made to restore the cupola and replace rotten wooden support beams with steel.

We hope that once again our generous donors will support us with auction items or checks are always welcome. To all horsemen out there, please give back to the sport that has made you successful and open your wallets. Donations may be sent to Horsemen’s Unicorn Foundation, 3520 NE 23rd Ave., Lighthouse Point, FL 33064 or in care of Bluegrass Staking, P.O. Box 1014, Versailles, KY 40383, or to The Stable of Memories Inc., P.O. Box 11073, Lexington, KY 40512-1073. All proceeds will be shared between both groups. Both the Horsemen’s Unicorn Foundation and Stable of Memories are 501c3 corporations and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
