Hustle Rain wins the Swedish Hambletonian

Hustle Rain, a 4-year-old trotter sired by Raja Mirchi (he by Viking Kronos) and out of Miss Possessed (she by Self Possessed), was an easy winner of Sprintermästaren at Halmstad — also called the Swedish Hambletonian — although for 4-year-olds.

Hustle Rain, who is trained by Mattias Djuse and had his brother, Magnus A. Djuse in the bike, won his elimination as well as the final.

In the final Hustle Rain took command from post position one and stayed on to win very easily in 1:52.3f; the purse for the winner was $110,000.

His dam, North American-bred Miss Possessed, has been an exceptionally good broodmare in Europe. Her richest foal is Magic Tonight (sired by Andover Hall) who won the Elitlopp and has earnings close to $1 million.

Another son, Testimonial OK (sired by Varenne), won the Italian Trotting Derby and now Hustle Rain has stamped himself as one of the leading 4-year-old trotters in Sweden.

At Halmstad, the filly division was won by Julia Sisu (sired by Kadabra), trained by Paul Hagoort and with Robin Bakker in the bike. She was timed in 1:54.4f and got $73,000 for the win.

Julia Sisu had to overcome an inquiry but kept the race, however, Robin Bakker was fined $4,400 and stood down for nine days, having interfered with Mellby Korall with Johan Untersteiner around the first bend.
