Huston highlights racing meet at Clinton County Fair

from the Ohio Colt Racing Association

Wilmington, OH — The Ohio Colt Racing Association had the great pleasure of the legendary Roger Huston calling the first card of the two days of stakes races in Wilmington, Ohio, to start this week off at the Clinton County Fair.

Roger Huston called the races on Sunday at the Clinton County Fair.

“The Voice of Harness Racing” returned to his south-central Ohio roots where he called some of his first races many years ago for the OCRA. The weather was perfect, the crowds were wonderful and many were racing, helping put the sessions on, spectating and cheering.

The Clinton County Fair put on two great twilight cards with the total mutuel handle nearing $12,000 by the end of Monday night’s event.

The finale of the second night was the Ohio Ladies Pace with Tabatha Canarr holding off Mandy Jones in a tight finish. Those gals are great for harness racing and the fans love them! We are happy to tell you they will be at many more Ohio Colt Racing Association fairs this summer.

The OCRA was very excited to make a huge economic impact on Clinton County with plenty of purse monies to distribute, racing fans to purchase food and goods at the fair, fuel, feed, hay and grain. The Clinton County speed committee did a fantastic job and be sure to let them know that the next time you see one of them at the races.

Special thanks again to Roger Huston. As one fan put it on our OCRA Facebook video post, “A true talent. He makes each and every race exciting!”

It was 1960, in May of that year to be exact, when a young man from Xenia, Ohio, was fetched by his uncle to fulfill some unspecified task at the Clinton County Fairgrounds in Wilmington. Although the moment seemed innocuous, it actually was laden with significance as it was the very first time the voice of the most storied announcer in the history of harness racing would emanate over a public address system.
