Skowhegan, ME — IB Notorious IR proved a conspicuous pacer on Wednesday (August 13) at the Skowhegan State Fair, generating the fastest mile of the evening while glimmering under the bright lights of the mid-Maine agricultural exhibition.
Handled aggressively by driver and co-owner, Drew Campbell, the Irish import rocketed off the car and jockeyed in furious fashion with Art Nukem (McGwire Sowers) and Real Thing ( Nick Graffam) before insistently claiming the lead as the field propelled to the quarter timed in a surprisingly gentle :29.2.
Campbell then caught a breather while decelerating to the half in a lullaby-like :59.1 before feeling pressure from a first-over salvo fired by Real Thing.
Like a motorist on the turnpike who stubbornly refuses to be passed, Campbell gunned his engines to leave Graffam’s progress suspended as the tempo tempestuously picked up into what would result in an insurmountable :57.1 back-half dash.
Separating from the field with each and every stride, IB Notorious IR crossed the wire by a 4-1/4 length in hand margin, timed in a new lifetime best clocking of 1:56.2.
Art Nukem finished second while Commondiscourtesy (Aaron Hall) rallied for third.
Trained by co-owner, Christopher Dubois, the win marked the 20th career winners circle session for the nine-year-old son of Hasty Hall, who paid $15 to win.
The win was one of two on the card for trainer Dubois and also one of two Wednesday scores for driver Campbell.
