Indiana Standardbred mare registration deadline reminder

Indianapolis, IN — Breeders wishing to participate in the Indiana Standardbred Breed Development Program are reminded that the mare registration deadline is quickly approaching.

The program offers incentives for foals that are registered as Indiana Sired and Bred with the Indiana Horse Racing Commission. In order for a foal to qualify as ISB, the following criteria must be met:

• Mare must be in foal to a registered Indiana stallion
• Mare must be registered by Aug. 1, 2020 with the IHRC
• Mare must reside in Indiana from Aug. 1 through 30 days after foaling
• Mare must foal in Indiana
• Foal must be registered with the IHRC within 30 days of foaling. Late fees are applicable after 30 days, but all foals must be registered by Dec. 31 of their foaling year

Foals registered as ISB are exclusively eligible for the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit, the Indiana Standardbred Association’s Elite Series and lucrative breeder’s awards. In addition, they are also eligible to the same events as an Indiana sired horse, such as the Indiana Sire Stakes, Indiana Sired Late Closers and Indiana Sired Overnights, held at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing and Casino.

Registration may be completed online using the Commission’s website. Owners can conveniently check to see if their foals are registered as well.

Breeders should be advised that the process to have a registered ISB foal is a multi-step process. Breeders must remember that just because the mare is registered with the program, the process is only complete once residency requirements have been fulfilled and the resulting foal has been registered with the IHRC.

Questions regarding program registration may be directed to Program Coordinator Lorelei Masshardt at 317.234.2540. An up-to-date list can be accessed on the Indiana Horse Racing Commission’s website at www.in.gov/hrc/2441.htm.
