Dayton, OH — Owner Casey Clemens’ homebred, Jailhouse Sam, who has been a resident of the Sandy Beatty Stable for six years, pulled a mild upset in Hollywood Dayton’s $24,000 Open Trot on Thursday (Oct. 7).

Jailhouse Sam and Beatty were seventh at the three-quarter marker, but rallied sharply for the 1:53.3 score. Pass The Vape (Trevor Smith) tried gallantly to follow and pass the winner, but fell a nose short. Kikimora (Josh Sutton) was also involved in the three horse photo finish.

The $2 exacta returned $90.60, while the 50-cent trifecta kicked back $306.60.

Driver Tyler Smith had the hot hand again with a grand slam on the Thursday card. Smith is quickest out of the gate at the Hollywood Dayton meet, leading the dash derby with 26 wins through the first ten days of the meet. His four triumphs came behind Neyreit (1:53.2, $23.20), Buckethead Fred (1:53.4, $3.20), Here Comes Moony (1:56.3, $9.20) and Mc Man (1:54.1, $7.80).

Reinsman Jeremy Smith copped both ends of the early daily double ($66.40); while Chris Page and Kayne Kauffman also managed driving doubles.
