Pacers lead the way during third session of Lexington Selected Yearling Sale

Lexington, KY — After trotters occupied the top spots the first two days of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, pacers led the way during Thursday’s third session as colt Fout and filly She’s A Lady both surpassed $200,000 to highlight another strong showing at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion.

The average price for Thursday’s 222 yearlings was $45,806 — the highest average for a third session since the 2017 sale averaged $47,594. The gross Thursday was $10.1 million, which pushed the sale to a record for highest-ever gross with two sessions still to go.

Last year during the third session, 180 yearlings sold for a total of $6.49 million and average of $36,094. Thursday’s session showed increases of 55.6 percent for gross and 26.9 percent for average compared to 2020.

Overall, this year’s sale has topped the record for gross established in 2019. So far this year, 550 yearlings have sold for $46.6 million. The final total in 2019 was $46.4 million for 762 horses.

The sale remains on pace to challenge the record for best average, also set in 2019. Through three sessions in 2019, the average was $83,720. This year, it is $84,793.

Fout, by Bettor’s Delight out of Grand Circuit winner and Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champion Weeper, sold for $250,000 to Wallace Standardbreds. The Ontario eligible colt was bred and consigned by Winbak Farm. His family includes millionaire Badlands Nitro.
