Columbus, OH — James W. Booth, DVM, 82, of Zanesville, Ohio, died July 1, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Dr. Booth was born in Columbus on April 27, 1942, to the late Dr. Edmond J. and Edna (Hothem). He was a graduate of Zanesville High School class of 1960, Otterbein University 1961-1963, and The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine 1964-1968.
His first job as a veterinarian was at Pine Hollow Farm in New York where his passion as an equine veterinarian became nationally known. After moving back to Zanesville, he started Dr. James W. Booth DVM and specialized in horses.
He was also the operator of E. & J. Crematory for many years.
Dr. Booth enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking his friends meals from the Putnam Tavern and the VFW.
He served our country and defended our freedom in the United States Army during Vietnam from 1968-1969.
Dr. Booth was a man of few words but had a big heart and loved his family very much.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pam (Swinehart), whom he married April 5, 1991; children, Jody (Ryan) Carpenter, Jayme (Shane) Starkey, and Ted (Kylie) Porter; brothers, Dr. Jack (Sandy) and Jon (Marci); grandchildren, J.P. (Melissa) Lichtner, Alex (Mandy) Lichtner, Drew Carpenter, Tyler Carpenter, Adyson Starkey, and Jaycob Starkey; great-grandchildren, Elouise Lichtner, Maxton Bryan, Parker Lichtner, and Cora Lichtner; mother-in-law, Patty (Frank) Fry; sisters-in-law, Sue (Daryl) Sowards and Betty; and a brother-in-law, Fredric Swinehart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Joe.
