Jeremy Smith notches 3,000th driving win

Dayton, OH — Driver Jeremy Smith cruised across the finish line for his 3,000th career victory on Thursday (Sept. 29) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.

Smith captured the milestone in the card’s 10th race aboard Manamongstboys, a 3-year-old JK Endofanera gelding trained by Lavern Hostetler. Manamongstboys, who went off the 4-5 favorite, won in gate-to-wire fashion in 1:57.2, besting Sectionline Racer (driven by Tony Hall) and returning $3.60 to win.

The 42-year-old Smith began his career in 2001. Fittingly, as a native of Washington Court House, Ohio, Smith had his first qualifying starts at Lebanon Raceway. His first purse victory came the following year at the Troy (Ohio) Fair with a 3-year-old filly pacer, Crosswind Ms Vicki, in a $600 race.

Since then, Smith has gone behind the gate 24,843 times and bankrolled more than $22 million in lifetime earnings. His best year to date was 2018, when he amassed $2.99 million and 338 seasonal wins.

Outside of harness racing, Smith has a talent and passion for restoring classic muscle cars.
