Jim Hogan named Caretaker of the Month at Pompano Park

by Steve Wolf, for the Florida Chapter USHWA

Pompano Beach, FL — Jim Hogan, the caretaker of one of the top pacing mares currently at the Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park, Fiesta Camcun, will be honored Monday night (April 1) at the track as the February 2013 Caretaker of the Month.

The award is presented every month during the racing season by the Florida chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association. It was developed to honor and award the “unsung heroes” in the backstretch, the caretakers.

During the month of February, Fiesta Camcun, who is owned and trained by Diane Hellen and driven by Stephane Lareau, posted three impressive victories. The 7-year-old daughter of Camotion, from the Kentucky Spur mare Perfect Catch, now sports career earnings of $162,000.

Hellen has only high praise for Jim Hogan.

“He (Hogan) is one of the most dedicated caretakers in this business. He takes his trade very seriously and is as professional as they get. His talent is a big reason for the mare’s success.”

Hogan will be honored in the winner’s circle after the first race Monday at Pompano Park with a special presentation by the Florida chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association, which includes a check for $100.
