JK First Lady, Rocknificent win PA Sire Stakes

Chester, PA — Despite the absence of divisional standout Party Girl Hill, who bypassed Thursday’s (Aug. 20) Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for 3-year-old pacing fillies at Harrah’s Philadelphia, JK First Lady and Rocknificent delivered spectacular efforts to win their respective $93,142 splits.

JK First Lady smashed the previous divisional track record at Harrah’s Philadelphia for sophomore pacing fillies in the second division, posting a 1:49.2 mile to lower Put On A Show’s previous 1:50.1 mark. Andy McCarthy moved late with the daughter of Western Ideal and JK Shesalady, and the filly went into overdrive to motor clear of pacesetter New Year by 2-3/4 lengths. Nancy Takter trains JK First Lady for the 3 Brothers Stable.

In the first division, Rocknificent defeated Lyons Sentinel by a neck in 1:50.2 after a fierce stretch battle. The Captaintreacherous filly drew the innermost post and put up soft early fractions of :28 and :57, and then Scott Zeron asked her for more as Lyons Sentinel attacked from last in the four-filly field, reaching three-quarters in 1:24.1. After a stretch-long duel, Rocknificent proved to have just a little bit more, using a :53.2 back half to win for trainer Linda Toscano and the ownership of Enviro Stables Ltd., South Mountain Stables and Little E LLC.

Five $20,000 Stallion Series divisions for 3-year-old pacing fillies also took place, with Going Going Gone (1:51, McCarthy), The Bethinator (1:52, Tim Tetrick), Marloe Hanover (1:50.4, McCarthy), Annabelle Hanover (1:52, Dexter Dunn) and Blazin Grace (1:51.4, David Miller) taking their respective divisions.
