Jordan Stratton gets a New York Sire Stakes triple

Monticello, NY — In New York Sire Stakes 3-year-old colt trot action Monday afternoon (July 31) at Monticello Raceway, the first division, worth $57,000, had a short field of five with a Ron Burke entry of Chapercraz and Sevecheetah.

Joe Bongiorno led from start to finish aboard Chapercraz in a 1:56.1 ($2.20) score over Cecil Hanover with Wild Bill Kelso third. The son of Crazy Wow–Chaperess was bred by Purple Haze Stables for owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Phil Collura.

The second heat saw five trotters behind the gate. Onion Gum pulled out of the two-hole going to the opening panel in a soft :29.4 and never looked back, going wire-to-wire to score in his $57,000 event in 1:58.2 ($4.70). The son of Chapter Seven–Prinsessa is trained by Lucas Wallin and is owned by S R F Stable, Mario Mazza and Order By Stable. It was one of three wins recorded on the afternoon by Jordan Stratton. The Gruffalo was second, with Some Kinda Crazy taking the show spot.

In Excelsior action, 32-1 Sevenatchi pulled off a shocker to get past the favorite Espresso at the wire in 1:59.2. The son of Chapter Seven–Catching Katie paid $67.00 for Stratton and trainer Stanley Zombick Jr.

The second heat saw the pocket sitting Seven Sins take the lead over Met Your Request (Tyler Miller). He did it just in time, as Met Your Request made a break on the lead, as did City Of Hope and Kingpin Hanover. Seven Sins strolled home an eight-length winner in 1:57.2 ($11.00) for Stratton. Lotto Hill was placed second and Night Star was placed third.

Sire Stakes action continues next week at the Mighty M, when the 3-year-old trotting fillies come to town. Post time will be at 12:10 p.m.
