Joseph Glenn Rankin, 39, dies

Columbus, OH — Joseph Glenn Rankin, 39, died Oct. 15, 2011, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a very short illness.

He was born in Portland on Feb. 2, 1972, a son of Glenn and Carolyn Adams Rankin. He attended local schools and graduated from Sacopee Valley High School in 1990. He married Tracy Hardy on July 16, 1994.

Mr. Rankin spent a year training horses for Gary Mosher on Long Island, N.Y. The next few years were spent in Foxborough, Mass., where he again trained horses for Glenn Boullier and his brother-in-law, James Hardy.

He moved back to Maine and worked for a few years at Black Mountain Lumber Co. in Windham. He worked a couple of years at New England Tool in Cornish, then went to Lavalley Lumber in Sanford for several years. Most recently, he drove a school bus for S.A.D. #57.

Besides training horses, his hobbies included being an avid deer hunter and he loved riding snowmobiles. He was very involved with 4-H with his children.

Mr. Rankin is survived by his wife, Tracy; parents, Glenn and Carolyn; daughters, Jessyca (and her companion Nicholas Howard), Stefany and Jaymee; brothers, Russell and Darrin; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday (Oct. 19), from 5-7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. Burial will be private.
