Columbus, OH — Two University of Findlay graduates have joined the U.S. Trotting Association to assist with addressing USTA membership needs. Jourdan Miller comes into a newly created position, Member Services Outreach Specialist, while Sophia Bunten joins as an Information and Research Assistant.

“We are pleased to have Jourdan and Sophia join the USTA,” said Mike Tanner, the USTA’s Executive Vice-President & CEO. “They already have vast equine industry knowledge and we’re looking forward to expanding the USTA’s pedigree work and outreach for off-the-track Standardbreds.”

Miller graduated with a double major in Equine Business Management and English Equestrian Riding/Training. Since graduation, she has been the barn manager and assistant trainer for Carraway Hill, a show barn located just outside Columbus. Her main focus will be representing the USTA at various events promoting the Standardbred, the racing industry and off-the-track initiatives, including the Standardbred Incentive Program. While representing the USTA at horse sales, Miller will work with the current member services travel team with processing association paperwork and assisting with all membership needs and questions.

“Being a primarily Hunter/Jumper focused rider/trainer, the opportunity to expand my knowledge and expertise with the USTA is an exciting prospect,” said Miller. “Standardbreds are an incredibly versatile breed with owners, trainers, and breeders that I am eager to work with and assist to keep their horses successful, both on and off the track.”

Bunten, who interned with the Information and Research Department from May-August 2023, has been working part-time within the Association since September. She now joins the USTA full-time as she graduates Findlay later this month with a BS in Equine Business Management and Animal Science Industry and an AA in Western Equestrian Studies. Her duties will include working on sale catalog pedigrees and assisting members with Pathway and statistical research.

“I enjoyed working at the USTA this past year,” said Bunten. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to expand my knowledge within the equine industry and eager to start my career and continue my position with the information and research team.”

“During her internship, Sophia showed great attention to detail, excellent work ethic, and an eagerness to immerse herself in Standardbred pedigrees and statistics,” explained Anne Chunko, the USTA’s Information and Research Manager. “We’re very glad to have her come on board at USTA full time.”
