Paris, France – Superstar mare Joviality S (5, Chapter Seven–Pasithea Face), $2,368,244 – 1:50.2 – 27 wins in 47 starts, has suffered an injury and will not be able to compete in the 2025 Grand Prix d’Amérique at Hippodrôme Vincennes in Paris in January.

“She has small fissure in right hind fetlock and the injury unfortunately spoils the plans for the Winter Meeting,” said trainer Sabine Kagebrant. – “I’m relieved we got a chance to really check her up with MRI, now when she was a bit cold. With normal x-ray and ultrasound, we couldn’t see anything. Now we could stop in good time before – worst-case – she got lame. The healing can now proceed with promenades and paddock as normal.”
With Joviality S out for at least eight to ten weeks of training, the owner Anders Ström (through Courant Inc.) has decided to retire Joviality S to become a broodmare. – “Her Dam Pasithea Face was also bred at 6-year-old. I would have loved to see Joviality S race in Paris again and perhaps another season, but luckily, we now have another great option for a future career for her,” said Anders Ström. “No partner has been decided yet, but since she is stabled in France, it will most likely be a French sire.”
Joviality S has made a name for herself as one of the best trotting mares of all times during four successful seasons of racing. She won the $600,000 Breeders Crown as a 2-year-old and beat the colts/geldings in the $280,000 Yonkers Trot as a 3-year-old, followed by a merited second place in the $1,000,000 2022 Hambletonian. She also raced against the boys – and won the $725,000 Swedish Trotting Derby as a 4-year-old, which was her biggest victory in the career. In her last season, as a fresh 5-year-old, she was third in the $1,000,000 Prix d’Amérique, beaten for second by a photo finish.
Joviality S was the first-born of the “Elit-Sto” dam Pasithea Face (Muscle Hill–Jovelinotte) who was bought by Anders Ström as a yearling from her breeder Lutfi Kolgjini in 2013. Joviality’s full sister, Kayleigh, is also retired, and will be bred to Greenshoe in 2025.
In her career Joviality S was trained by Marcus Melander and Sabine Kagebrant and driven by Brian Sears, Erik Adielsson, Björn Goop and Benjamin Rochard. Michaela Wallin, Michaela Engström and Erik Cederlund have been her grooms. “I would like to thank everyone involved in the success of Joviality S, and especially the horse herself, she is really something extra. I will be looking forward to seeing her offsprings,” said Anders Ström.
