Kaltenbach final to Champa Bay Hall at Scioto Downs

Grove City, OH — The $30,000 final of the Jay Kaltenbach series went to Champa Bay Hall on Wednesday (July 10) at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Osaka Hall (Dan Noble) took the early lead from post four heading through the first turn. Lady Almas (Ryan Stahl) was parked around the first turn from post six and took over the lead as the field hit the :29 opening quarter. By the :58.2 half Uncle Petes Dream (Chris Page) was flushed out first over by Champa Bay Hall.

Heading to the 1:27.1 third quarter, Uncle Petes Dream had gotten up to Lady Almas’ wheel. Champa Ball Hall went three-wide around the last turn, coming home in :28.3 to win by 2-1/4 lengths. Lady Almas was second, with Disco Flirt getting up for third.

With the win Champa Bay Hall nearly doubled her lifetime earnings to $30,945 and set a new lifetime mark of 1:56.2. The 3-year-old filly by Creatine, out of the Tom Ridge mare Angela Hall, was bred by Atlantic Trot and Steve Stewart. Steve Carter trains Champa Ball Hall for Jeff Fought Racing, Adam Friedland and Brian Carsey.

The Jay Kaltenbach series was for 3-year-old trotting fillies eligible to the Buckeye Stallion Series that did not race in the second leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes. The other three divisional finals will be held July 19 (the Dr. Davis Pace for fillies), July 20 (the Joe Adamsky Pace for colts) and July 25 (the Dick Richardson Trot for colts).

Racing continues on Thursday (July 11). The 90-day 2024 Eldorado Scioto Downs race meet runs through Saturday (Sept. 14). Races are held Tuesday-Saturday with a first post of 5:45 p.m. each day, except for Friday (Sept. 13) which will have a 6:15 p.m. post to help accommodate horsemen attending the Ohio Selected Yearling Sale.
