Nichols, NY – Karinchak (Mark MacDonald) captured a $117,600 leg of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for 3-year-old trotting colts & geldings at Tioga Downs on Saturday (Aug. 30).

Seven Layer (Ridge Warren) led to the quarter in :27.2. Happy Jack B (Tyler Buter) then took over control with a lap to go and was first to the half in :56.0. Variegated (Mattias Melander) came first-up to challenge as they headed down the backstretch. Happy Jack B led to three quarters in 1:24.4.
As they entered the stretch, Karinchak ($17.60) and second place finisher Seismic Step (Niko Karna) came flying home. Karinchak had the jump and won in 1:55.1. Happy Jack B had to settle for third.
Karinchak is a 3-year-old colt by Chapter Seven. He is owned by Ted Gewertz, Arden Homestead Stable, Steve Arnold, and trainer Ray Schnittker. It was his fourth win this season. He now has five career victories.
Mike Merton had a driving double. Rob Harmon had a training double.
