Kasha V highlights big day for Siegelman at Freehold

Freehold, NJ — Austin Siegelman had quite the afternoon at Freehold Raceway on Friday (Oct. 2), winning five races on the 11-race card. One of them was with a horse who won his fifth in a row — Kasha V, who won the $25,000 New Jersey Futurity for 3-year-old trotters.

Kasha V, who had swept his way through the New Jersey Sire Stakes-Standardbred Development Fund earlier in the meet, was the 7-2 second choice behind 1-9 favorite Barley. Siegelman had Kasha V in the pocket in the early stages, then retook the lead after the quarter. Barley inched up closer, prompting Kasha V to brace for the challenge of his favored rival. As they turned for home, Barley went off stride, sealing the deal for Kasha V. From there, he cruised to the line five lengths in front, winning in 1:58 for owner Theologos Moutafis and trainer Tom Corelli.

Siegelman also won with Duck N Roll for trainer Izzy Estrada, Ashtini for trainer Tom Fanning, Fly In Style for trainer Chris Height, and Lionhead for trainer Terry Morgan.

Since the resumption of racing at Freehold on Aug. 28, Siegelman has far and away the most wins of any Freehold driver with 19 victories.

Live racing continues at Freehold on Saturday (OCt. 3) starting at 12:30 p.m.
