Keeling ready for Thursday at Mohawk

Campbellville, ON — Trainer Mike Keeling will be busy Thursday night (August 19) at Mohawk Racetrack as he sends out four horses — all competing in stakes events.

Keeling will send out two entries in the C$50,000 Bridger Trotting Series final and two entries in the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold eliminations for 2-year-old trotting fillies.

Unabating has drawn post 10 in the final of the Bridger Trotting Series for driver Paul MacDonell. The son of Broadway Hall was a $55,000 yearling purchase and was Keeling’s favorite 2-year-old all winter and hasn’t disappointed the veteran trainer. He has finished second in both his Bridger Trotting Series divisions but Keeling believes that Unabating’s best stride will come in time.

“I’m trying to blend my horse to be ready for the Wellwood (William Wellwood Memorial Trot) and peak that night. I think Talespinner is ahead of that right now but hopefully we all catch up to him,” Keeling told WEG’s media department.

Keeling’s other entry, Gotabgoodtoblucky, has been a surprise to Keeling. The $8,000 yearling was a buy back for owner Karen Carroll and Keeling believes he might be the sleeper in the final.

“I think Karen (Carroll) believed in him all along. She called me and asked me to finish him off and she thought he had enough potential to be a nice colt but he had to be around other horses training. When I got him he was very green and I am kind of surprised because at the farm he acts very foolish but when he’s at the track he’s been nothing but professional,” Keeling commented.

The son of Windsong’s Legacy will start from post five with Steve Condren handling the lines for the first time. Gotabgoodtoblucky was victorious in his first leg division followed up by a second place effort.

Keeling also offers his comments on Miss Janine and Walked Into Heaven as they will compete in the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold eliminations for 2-year-old trotting fillies.

Post time for Thursday’s card of racing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
