Chester, PA – Ken Hanover, near or at the top of his class of the free-for-all pacers for months on end now, was sent out to qualify at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Tuesday morning, and the son of Captaintreacherous showed he retained serious form with a victory in 1:50.4.
Some folks may not remember that “Ken’s” trainer Roland (Polie) Mallar has over 1,000 career driving victories (including 235 in 1986), and it was Mallar who was behind his prime pupil as he went right down the road in :29.1, :56.3, and 1:24.1 en route to the very fast triumph. The last quarter of :26.3 catches the eye – but so does the fact that he covered his last three-quarters in 1:21.3 in a qualifier.
Ken Hanover, owned by Mallar in partnership with Patrick Leavitt, William Jordan, and Dennis Osterholt, has a 2025 record of 9-6-0-2, with seasonal earnings of $251,671 and a lifetime bankroll of $945,075. Among his biggest victories of this campaign are the Battle of Lake Erie and divisions of the Brower and McKee memorials.
