Kentucky Proud Series opens

Lebanon, KY — Racing kicked off in Kentucky this weekend, with the opening of the Kentucky Proud Series: harness racing at Kentucky County Fairs. A total of 17 races were contested at the Washington County Fair (held at the Lebanon Fairgrounds) for Kentucky eligible 2- and 3-year-old trotters and pacers.

The fastest race of the day belonged to Single Girl and driver Randal Jerrell. The 3-year-old daughter of Always A Virgin out of the Cambest mare My Best Girl, picked up her ninth win in 15 career starts and pushed her lifetime earnings to $54,500 with the 1:57.3 score. She is leased by Janet Banks and is trained by Jerrell.

Dandy’s Mnm captured the fastest race of the day for 2-year-old pacers. The filly by Fort Knox out of Marla Mcgivers went to the front and held off Top Honors in a final time of 2:02.2, giving driver Jeff Nisonger his first win of five on the day. She is owned by A Piece Of The Action and is trained by Geremy Bobbitt.

Trainer/driver Bobby Moore picked up his second win on the card with Fashion Rox in the 2-year-old filly trot. The Pekoe Fashion-Yo Roxie filly went gate-to-wire in a quick 2:09.2, winning by a half-length over Create Mystique and driver Pete Foley.

Uncle AJ and Ti’ Punch captured the fastest divisions of their classes for 3-year-old trotters. Uncle AJ, a 3-year-old colt by Uncle Peter, held off all challengers in 2:03 for driver Jeff Nisonger and owners Kevin Thomas, Randy Donahue, Martin Thompson, and James Thompson. The 3-year-old filly Ti’ Punch won the hard fought battle against Lady Resort As, winning by just a nose in 2:03 for driver Jeff Nisonger and owner/trainer Pasko Vucinaj.

Next up in the Kentucky Proud Series is the Purchase District Fair (Graves County) held in Mayfield. First post will be 12:30 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday (June 5). Entries close Wednesday (June 2) at 10 a.m. (EDT).
