Local students awarded scholarships by MSOA

Washington, PA — The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association recently announced the winners of its 2015 Collegiate Scholarship Awards in a ceremony held in the winner’s circle at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino.

Kim Hankins, Executive Director of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association and PA Representative Brandon Neuman (D-48th District) present the MSOA Scholarship to Ryan Zidek and his father, Jeff Zidek.

The $5,000 MSOA Scholarship, presented by the MSOA Board of Directors, was awarded to Ryan Zidek, a junior communication major at Saint Vincent College. Ryan is a native of Greensburg and graduate of Hempfield Area High School. He is the son of Jeff Zidek.

Riley Harvey was awarded the $3,200 MSOA/Hanover Shoe Farms Scholarship. Riley, a Chartiers-Houston graduate and son of Nikki Harvey, will be attending Wright State University as a freshman this fall, majoring in athletic training.

Alyssa Cummings, a third-year nursing student at Pittsburgh Technical Institute, was named the winner of the $2,500 MSOA/CSC Insurance Options Scholarship. The daughter of Todd and Tammy Cummings is a graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School.

The $1,000 Dr. Barry Betts Memorial Scholarship, presented by the MSOA and LCM Nutraceuticals, was awarded to Jessica Cocciolone, daughter of Carl and Sharon Cocciolone. The Monessen native is a graduate of Geibel Catholic High School and will be a freshman at Robert Morris University this fall, majoring in cyber security.

The MSOA would like to congratulate all of this year’s winners, and thank all of its partners in making the scholarship program a success, including Tom Svrcek of CSC Insurance, Dr. Larry Smith of LCM Nutraceuticals and Hanover Shoe Farms.
