Maine State Rep. Don Marean, operator of Lindon Farm and a popular USTA director from that state, has been reappointed to the Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry Committee by the state’s Speaker of the House.

“I am so happy to be there as I know I can do a lot for harness racing and the farmers of Maine,” said Marean. “The Republican leadership has asked me to serve as the lead Republican on the committee and I am thrilled to have been asked to lead. I have put in a couple of bills related to harness racing and a bill to repeal the sales tax on vegetable seeds and garden fertilizers.

“It is so ridiculous that we charge a tax on something as important as food, especially when it is so healthy and gets people off their couches and into their yards and you don’t get fat on vegtables. I have no idea if it will pass or not but I am sure going to give it a lot of effort. We tax too darn much and when taxes discourage people’s efforts to do the right thing, then it needs to be changed.”
