Maryland Sires Stakes highlight Sunday night card at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD – The top two-year old pacers and trotters in the Maryland Sires Stakes program highlight an action packed Sunday (Sept. 29) night card at Rosecroft Raceway.

Stakes and track record holder Yall Beneath Me drew poorly, scoring from post nine for Russell Foster and owner-trainer Richard Hans in the Ralph Hayward Memorial.  Last week’s 18-length victory came in a stakes and Rosecroft Freshmen Colt trotting record of 1:54.4 and the horse was completely under wraps. The son of Googoo Gaagaa, is a perfect 6-6 and captured $60,650 so far this year. Andy American, driven by Allan Davis, drew post five, won in an impressive, 1:58 last week. He won his elimination by 13 lengths for trainer Andrew Harris and owner Robert Key. He smoked the first half in :56 before trotting the back half in 1:02. Goorilla and Jim Morand score from the rail and has a win in 2:00 to his credit. This is the second of two non-betting events that start at 7:00.

In the first non-betting event, the Wayne Smullin Memorial,  Cate’s A Keeper and stablemate KJ Andrea have been impressive so far in 2019. Cate’s A Keeper captured the $70,000 final at Ocean Downs on August 25. KJ Andrea made a rare mistake jumping off stride in that final, but, has been super in two wins for John Wagner in winning both eliminations at Rosecroft. Cate’s A Keeper dominated her last elim in 1:57.3 and has the post edge with the four hole as opposed to post nine for KJ Andrea. Winnie The Goo (Jim Morand) and Two Itchy (Frank Milby) also have punchers chances in the final.

Trainer Arlene Cameron has 13 starters in the four $70,000 finals, three make up a great entry in race 3, the Earl Wagner Memorial for pacing colts and geldings.

Last week, Jordons All In set a new standard for two-year old pacing geldings winning in 1:52.1 for driver John Wagner and owner, Pamela Wagner. The son of Rusty’s All In over took stablemate Nvrfearlloydishere after the first quarter and them held him off by a nose for the elimination victory. The winner drew post seven in the final while the runner up has the rail for Eddie Davis Jr. The third member of the Pamela Wagner entry, Tom’s All In, won his elimination in 1:55 and gets Allan Davis in the bike from post two.

Fantastic Voyage, a winner in 1:54.1 ni the first week of eliminations, drew post nine with Corey Callahan in the bike.

Race five features the distaff pacers and a nice three horse rivalry between Ocean Downs final winner, Maizee Blue, Breeze Away B and Fire Me Up, part of a three horse Pamela Wagner entry.

Breeze Away B has the rail for driver Robert White and owner-trainer William Fletcher. The daughter of Nuclear Breeze won her elimination last week in a lifetime best 1:55.3.  Maizee Blue scores from post two fro Eddie Davis jr. who guided the Rusty’s All In filly to a win the August final at Ocean Downs for trainer Les Givens and owners Leslie Moore and Bob Weyforth. Fire Me Up has been second in two significant stakes and has post three for Jared Moyer.

I’d Be Rich won her elimination last week, but, like stablemate Fantastic Voyage, drew post nine in the final for driver Corey Callahan who will driver for his Dad Nick who owns, and brother Shaun who trains the daughter of Rusty’s For Real.

In the Maryland Exclusive Handicap for $12,500, Sams Triple Crown returns to Rosecroft where he will score from the rail with Wagner in the bike who chose the Jerry Nock owned and tarined gelding over last week’s winner Diamondkeeper who was assigned post nine based on earnings in last four starts.

In the $12,000 Open Handicap,  a field of nine is headed up by Don Hawk and Dan Warrington’s Rollinlikethunder, a six time winner this year for Davis Jr. who scores from post six. Allie’s Finale comes in off a lifetime best 1:50.4 score for Roger Plante as has post 2. Jaason Lynch brings Dialamara over for the first time and starts from post four. Post nine was assigned to Late Mail N and John Wagner for trainer Mike Hall who starts at Rosecroft for the first time and having the highest earnings in the last four starts.
