Hastings, MI — Kody Massey added five driving wins to his total on Wednesday (Sept. 10) at Northville Downs at the Barry Expo Center. This brought his season total to 25 as he currently commands the drivers’ standings, leading his next closest rival, David Lake, who has 12 wins on the meet.
Massey started out the afternoon winning with Word to the Wise (Lost For Words-Platinum Spirit) in race four for owner Lases Racing and trainer Paul Cloer Jr. The duo stopped the clock in 1:58.4, winning by just a head over Anne Bonney N and pilot David Lake.
In race six, Rosas Show G (Best In Show–Goddess’s Rosa), with Massey in tow, was the pocket rocket winner by 1-1/2 lengths over Bunkerhill Lil in 2:01.3. Rosas Show G is owned and trained by Paul Cloer Jr.
Massey’s third win on the afternoon came in race seven with Royalty Girl (Odds On Equuleus–Odds On Volatility) for owner/trainer Jim Ingersoll. Royalty Girl grabbed the lead on the give-and-go just past the quarter and never gave it up, winning by a half length over Artistic Cat. The final time of the race, 1:59.2 established a new track record for a 3-year-old pacing filly.
In race 11, Meadowbrook Lady (Jk Endofanera-Lady Lakers) brought Massey home win number four on the day, again a pocket rocket winner. Meadowbrook Lady, who is owned and trained by Samuel Eicher, won by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:56.4, which equaled the track record for older pacing mares set by Avalon Freeze on Aug. 27, 2025.
Finally, in race 12, Massey won for the second straight week aboard the Jim Eaton trainee Bet Mine (Betting Line–Pleasant Yet Bad), who made it three wins in a row. Bet Mine set the all-time track record and the record for an older pacing horse the week prior in 1:56. This week, he stopped the timer in 1:56.1, just one-fifth of a second off the week’s prior record. Bet Mine won in wire-to-wire fashion for the second week in a row. He is owned by Robert Silberberg.
To date, Massey has 1,826 driving wins and has amassed $8,071,926 in driving purse earnings.
When asked how it feels to be off to such a hot start at the new facility for Northville Downs, he replied, “Well, winning races never gets old. I love to win! With that said, I just really appreciate all the trainers and owners that make it all possible for me. I truly love racing horses. There’s nothing I’d rather be doing!”
In total on the Wednesday program, Massey had five driving wins while David Lake had three. Trainer Paul Cloer Jr. had two wins added to his tally to move into a first-place tie with Lewayne Miller for leading trainer thus far.
While Lake may be trailing Massey by 13 wins in the driver standings, he still had a major impact of his own on Wednesday. He equaled the older trotting track record in race two with Rose Run Vincent (And Away We Go–Real Housewife), winning in 1:59. The record was set on Sept. 2, 2025 by Peter The Con and driver Ed Hennessey.
Peter The Con won later in the Wednesday program, for the second straight week, as he stopped the timer in 1:59.1, just one-fifth of a second off his own record.
In race nine, David Lake set a new track record for 4-year-old pacing geldings, winning in 1:56.2 with Noble Dale (The Panderosa–Noble Trixie) for owner/trainer Jocelyn Bates. That erased the 1:57 record set earlier in the card by Mr Pnut (Manhardt–Marmaria) for owner Staci Malady and trainer/driver Art McIlmurray.
Racing at Northville Downs at the Barry Expo Center, in Hastings, Mich., returns next Tuesday (Sept. 16) and Wednesday (Sept. 17) with a first post time of 1 p.m. each day.
