McCoy Final held at Scioto

Columbus, OH — Screamin Demon and Trevor Smith braved unseasonably cool and rainy weather Friday (May 28) at Eldorado Scioto Downs to take the Steve McCoy final in 1:54.4. The final for 3-5-year-old non-winners of one pacing fillies went for $15,600.

Leaving from post two, Smith took her straight to the top and led through :28.1, :57 and 1:25.4 fractions. She won handily by one length for breeder/owner Stephen Sexton and trainer Mark Wagner. Dragons Lucky Lady (Tyler Smith) came up the passing lane to finish second while Reachthruthesky AS (Chris Page) came three-wide from the back of the pack around the last turn to get up for third.

Screamin Demon is by Racing Hill out of the Artiscape mare Angels N Demons. Racing for the first time as a 3-year-old, she now has two wins in four starts and more than doubled her earnings to $14,440 with the win. 

The McCoy final was the third of four finals held for the non-winners of one series for 3-5-year-olds named after Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association past presidents/general managers. Each series consisted of two legs and a final. The $16,000 final for the Jerry Knappenberger (for male pacers) will be on Monday (May 31). The Kevin Greenfield (for male trotters) was won by Fire Cross on Wednesday (May 26) in 1:56 and the John Konesky (for female trotters) was won by Magic Credit Card on Thursday (May 27) in 1:56.1.

Live racing at Scioto Downs will deviate from the normal Tuesday-Saturday schedule next week when a special Memorial Day card will be held on May 31 instead of the Tuesday card. Post time will still be 6:15 p.m. View the entire 2021 racing schedule here.
