Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

THIS WEEK’S SCHEDULE
Hollywood Casino at The Meadows will be racing our regular summer schedule this week. Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at 12:45 p.m., Friday evening’s card will begin at 5:10 p.m., and Saturday’s card will begin at 12:45 p.m.

ONE FOR THE AGES
This past Friday (June 9) night, there was an unusual situation at The Meadows, when Lucas Myers sat behind trotter Call To Post. At age 19, Myers is only 5 years older than Call To Post, who is in his final season of racing at the age of 14.

FIRST PARI-MUTUEL 2-YEAR-OLD RACE SET FOR WEDNESDAY
The first pari-mutuel 2-year-old race of the season will be held on Wednesday (June 14), when a field of eight pacing fillies will compete in the fourth race on the afternoon card. Darey Queen, a Sweet Lou filly owned and trained by Mitchell York, is the 4-1 morning line favorite from post one with driver Jeremy Indof. Darey Queen was a $24,000 yearling purchase last fall at the Harrisburg Standardbred Horse Sale.

14 RACES FOR FRESHMEN TUESDAY
A total of 18 qualifying races are scheduled for Tuesday morning (June 13), with 14 of those set aside for 2-year-old trotters and pacers. A total of 86 freshmen are slated to try to qualify, including 23 from the Ron Burke Stable. Post time for the first race will be 10:30 a.m., and the races will be shown live on the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association’s Facebook page.

HIGH AND LOW
The freshmen attempting to qualify on Tuesday are a mix of homebreds and those purchased at auction. Among the auction buys, the top-priced entrant is Believe It Sea It, a Downbytheseaside colt from the Tim Twaddle Stable competing in the 11th race. Out of the American Ideal mare American Major, he was a $160,000 purchase at Lexington. On the other end of the spectrum is Sensational Lee, a We Will See filly. Owned by driver James Dodson and trained by Ron Lineweaver, Sensational Lee was a $2,000 purchase at the Buckeye Classic sale.

IN FROM THE OCEAN
Trainer Michael Hall from Ocean City, Maryland has brought several horses to race at The Meadows. He started seven horses this past week, winning twice. He has three horses entered in the Wednesday and Thursday (June 15) cards this coming week.
