Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

NEW WAGER COMING SOON
Last month, The Meadows asked horseplayers to complete a survey about our racing and wagering product. As a result, a new wager with a low takeout and a higher minimum bet will be coming to The Meadows starting in early March. Stay tuned, as additional details will be released soon.

VACATION IS OVER
Races at The Meadows this past week were, for the most part, missing two names that have picked up a lot of drives so far in 2024. Ronnie Wrenn Jr. missed racing on both Wednesday and Thursday, while Chris Lems was off for the entire week. Both drivers enjoyed hard-earned vacation time, and both are expected to be driving throughout this week at The Meadows.

TOP DRIVERS, TRAINERS
Driver Dave Palone has opened a seven-win lead over Ronnie Wrenn Jr., 46-39, in the driver standings. Aaron Merriman has had a strong month of February and is third with 38 wins. Merriman has been the most active Meadows reinsman, with 213 drives, while Hunter Myers is second (188), and is fourth in wins with 21. Mickey Burke Jr. leads the trainer standings with 27 wins, but Brandon Presto now has 21, and has won at a 28 percent clip so far this year. Among smaller stables, Johnny Yoder is off to a strong start, winning 42 percent of his races (9-for-21). Dirk Simpson, who is third in wins with 13, has been the most active trainer so far this season at The Meadows, with 117 starts.
