Washington, PA – Here is the Meadows Monday Memo:

FRIDAY STAKES, SPECIAL SATURDAY POST THIS WEEK

The Meadows will race at 12:45 p.m. this Wednesday (May 15), Thursday (May 16) and Friday (May 17), but will have a special post time on Saturday (May 18), Preakness Day. First post on Saturday will be 11:30 a.m. Friday’s card will feature 3-year-old filly pacers in Pennsylvania Sire Stake and PA Stallion Series action.

GEOCENTRIC TO MAKE SEASON DEBUT FRIDAY

Speaking of the PASS 3-year-old pace, Geocentric, last year’s star freshman, will make her first start of the 2024 season at The Meadows on Friday afternoon. She qualified on May 8 at Hoosier Park in 1:51.4, with a blistering last quarter of 25.3 for trainer Brian Brown and driver Trace Tetrick.

BETTORS HAD IT RIGHT

In the 8th race on Saturday (May 11), the bettors had the race played 100% correctly, top to bottom. In an unusual occurrence, the 1-9 favorite finished first, the 8-1 second choice finished second, and that continued all the way to the 57-1 longest shot on the board finishing 8th. American Classic was the winner in 1:50.4.

PERFECT RECORD

With a win in his first start of the season, Dirk Simpson became just the second driver at The Meadows this year with a perfect record. Simpson, regularly one of The Meadows’ top trainers, drove Unbeatable Kemp to a win in a Great Lakes Amateur Driving Association trot on Saturday (May 110, and joined Greg Wright, Jr as the only two drivers with a 100% winning percentage this year. Wright has driven twice, recording back-to-back wins with the trotter Accessory.
