Miso Fast lives up to his name at Pompano

Pompano Beach, FL — Miso Fast, driven by Bryce Fenn, lived up to his name at Pompano Park on Sunday night (April 8) as the 4-year-old made his seasonal debut a winning one, conquering a select field of older horses.
The 4-year-old son of Roll With Joe stopped the timer in 1:50.3 after taking command at the opening station in a rapid :26.2 and then proceeding through panels of :55.3 and 1:23 before an effortless :27.3 finale sealed the deal by three-parts of a length. Among his victims this night were the late charging Rock On Moe, handled by Dan Daley; Dee’s Rocketman, driven by Andy Santeramo; and track record holder Panocchio, who was fourth, less than two lengths away. Doo Wop Hanover picked up the nickel in the classy sextet comprised of the winners of more than $3 million.
Driver Fenn sent his charge flying off the wings while taking command with a strong brush that, literally, lasted the entire mile.
Trainer Luanna Beeson was ecstatic with the win relating, “He had been off for a few months after facing some of the better 3-year-olds last season and he qualified a couple of times and looked sharp in both of those. But you never know what to expect racing against seasoned veterans like these, so I am very pleased with his mile. Bryce (driver Fenn) did his usual great job with him. The only thing I told him was to ‘drive him like he owned him.’ He did just that.”
Owned by Winchester Baye Acres LLC, the sleek Miso Fast sent his career bankroll to $655,438 to go along with his 1:49.2 Pocono mark achieved last year as a 3-year-old. Off at even money on the toteboard, Miso Fast paid $4.20 to win.
The track also hosted three amateur events honoring the memory of the grand sportsman Cornelious Kingsley Garrison Billings, the owner of harness racing’s first 2:00 trotter, Lou Dillon, back in 1903.
Those events — two trotting events and one pacing race — were won by Skyway Pippen, driven by Robert Krivelin, in 1:58.4; Pixie Queen, with John Campagnuolo in her sulky, in 1:59.2; and the pacer Feelin Lucky, who covered his mile for Billy Muggleston in a seasonal best 1:54.1.
Pompano Park’s Super Hi-5 finale was also conquered on Sunday night as a single 20-cent ticket on the winning combination of 6-2-1-3-9 was worth $13,496.94.
