Mohawk video: Jamieson reflects on Hambo Day

Campbellville, ON — Fresh off a 1:47.2 world record performance at the Meadowlands with Hypnotic Blue Chip, driver Jody Jamieson took a few minutes to reflect on one of the greatest days of the year in Standardbred racing.

Jamieson spoke about the overall day at The Big M and what it was like to be a part of it.

“Hambletonian Day is probably one of the greatest days in racing. A lot of racetracks try to copy it but not too many tracks can duplicate it. It was just a tremendous day with an amazing field of horses with pretty much every race a stake race,” Jamieson told Greg Gangle of the Woodbine Entertainment Group.

Hypnotic Blue Chip was Jamieson’s big win of the day as he set a 1:47.2 world record in his division of the U.S. Pacing Championship.

“I thought we had a shot but I just didn’t know how it was going to work out. I didn’t know if Yannick (Gingras) was going to come out around the final turn or stay in and when he stayed in, my horse probably paced the fastest three-eighths of a mile I have ever seen,” Jamieson commented.

The victory boosted Hypnotic Blue Chip’s career earnings to $888,312 for trainer Kevin McDermott and owner Francis Azur.

Jamieson also offered his thoughts on Seriously’s performance after her fourth place finish in the Mistletoe Shalee final for regular WEG trainer, Tony O’Sullivan.

Peach Martini looks to redeem herself

The lone defeat in her three career starts came in the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold final at Flamboro Downs on July 23, but Peach Martini is looking to redeem herself Monday night (August 9) at Mohawk Racetrack in the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold final for 2-year-old trotting fillies.

Peach Martini’s defeat came from the Wayne Henry pupil, Extraordinaire, who was victorious in her elimination last week as was Mary’s Out Cruisin.

Peach Martini is coming into Monday’s contest in excellent form according to trainer/driver Rick Zeron.

“She raced very good for me in her elimination, she come a quarter in :29 and a mile in (1):59.4, so I was quite happy. One of the fillies I’ll have to watch is Wayne Henry’s filly, Extraordinaire. She beat me at Flamboro so I’m going to have to watch her (in the final) and the other eight horses but especially Extraordinaire,” Zeron told WEG’s media department.

“She does everything like she’s four-years-old so there really isn’t anything not to like about her. Everything so far this year that I have asked her to do she has done and I’m quite happy with her,” Zeron commented.

The daughter of Striking Sahbra has banked $69,675 for Zeron and co-owners Rojan Stables, Michael Katz and Stephen Waldman.

Peach Martini will leave from post one in race five with a scheduled post time of 8:44 p.m.
